Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
As we know , Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the first Guru of the Sikh religion followed by Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji , Shri Guru Amar Das Ji , Shri Guru Ram Das Ji and then Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji .
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had composed some Gurbani in his time period . When Guru Sahib Ji had given the Guru Gaddi to Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji , he gave all his Gurbani Collection in form of a Pothi Sahib to Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji .
This process continued till Guru Arjan Dev Ji .
But all these pothi sahibs are at different places .
So , the fifth Guru i.e. Guru Arjan Dev Ji decided to collect the whole sermons or Gurbani at one place .
As this collection contains holy Gurbani , that’s why it is given the name of ” Shri Aad Granth Sahib Ji ” .
To make this work successful , Guru Sahib Ji collected the holy Gurbani of previous Guru Sahib .
Guru Sahib ji collected 974 compositions of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji , 63 saloks of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji , 907 compositions of Sri Guru Amar Das Ji and 679 compositions of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji .
In his childhood , Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji has got the blessings of ” ਦੋਹਤਾ – ਬਾਣੀ ਕਾ ਬੋਹਤਾ ” from his Grandfather i.e. Sri Guru Amar Das Ji .
So , Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji compiled 2218 compositions and included it in the collection .
Thus , his grandfather’s blessing came true in this form and Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji has highest number of compositions in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji .
As time passed , many holy incidents or miracles also occurred throughout this collection process .
Then Guru Sahib ji collected the holy sermons of 15 Bhagats , 11 Bhatts and 4 Gursikhs whose names are –
15 Bhagats –
Bhagat Beni Ji

4 Gursikhs –

Guru Sahib Ji had given the responsibility of writing to Bhai Gurdaas Ji . So , near the Ramsar Sarovar , bhai sahib ji wrote the whole Gurbani collectively in form of a single scripture .
As this holy process was going on , it had become very popular . Due to this , many saints started approaching Guru Sahib Ji . They wanted to have their verses , included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji .
Like there is one incident when one saint came and asked Guru Sahib Ji to include his verses in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji . Guru Sahib Ji read his all verses . Throughout his all verses , he has just criticized woman . One of that verse is ” Don’t trust a woman even if she is made up of paper ” .
Guru Sahib ji asked him , ” This is not the message which we want to convey to the world ” . So , he refused to include his verses .
Many such incidents occurred throughout this work .
At last in 1604 , this work was completed under the divine order of Akaal Purakh Ji ( The Supreme Lord ) .
Thus , Guru Sahib Ji collected all the Gurbani in form of Sri Aad Granth Sahib Ji .
That’s why all the Sikhs celebrate this holy occasion as Sampooranta Diwas .
Till this time , Bani of ninth Guru i.e. Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji has not been included in Sri Aad Granth Sahib Ji .
As Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji knew the future . So , he has asked Bhai Gurdas Ji to leave some Angs at last of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji . Thus , in this way , Guru Sahib Ji had predicted that some more bani will be added in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji .
After fighting battles with Mughals , Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji reached Sri Damdama Sahib . At that place , Guru Sahib Ji included the bani of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji in Sri Aad Granth Sahib Ji .
After this , Guru Sahib Ji visited South India . At Nanded , Guru Sahib ji gave the Guru Gaddi to Sri Aad Granth Sahib Ji and announced –
Agya Bhai Akal Ki , Tabe Chalyo Panth
( As was ordained by the Timeless, thus was established the Panth. )
Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai , Guru Manyo Granth
( To all Sikhs, let this be the order, recognize the Granth as your Guru. )
Guru Granth Ji Manyo , Prakat Guran Ki Deh
( The reverend Guru Granth is the visible body of the gurus )
Jo Prabh Ko Milbo Chahe , Khoj Sabad Mein Leh
( Those that seek to meet with Waheguru , delve into the Shabad )
Thus Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji become the 11th Guru of Sikhs .
