The Chairman of SDU, Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh, expressed his deep condolences to the victim’s families. He said, “The incident is extremely heart-breaking and I offer my deepest condolences to the victims and their families. Sikh Dharma Universal stands in support of the families in their tough times and prays for their strength and wellbeing.”

He further added, “Our organization is in constant touch with the families as well as administrative and other community leaders. We are hopeful of a transparent and full investigation of the shooter’s intent.”

According to one of the members, “We panicked and waited with our families to hear how many of our community people were affected. The answer devastated us.” The shooting happened at a facility that was heavily occupied by Sikh employees.

The gunman was later identified as Brandon Scott Hole, a 19- year-old former employee of the package shipping company. His mother warned the FBI in March 2020 regarding her son’s intentions of committing suicide-by-cop. Following her complaint, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department admitted Hole to a mental health facility. Insufficient evidence, however, led to the closure of the investigation back then.

The US President, Joe Biden, has referred to this incident as a national embarrassment. The Sikh community feels President Biden must take strong action against all violence committed against people of all faiths, religions, ethnicities, and colors and must bring changes in the gun laws with comprehensive background checks.

Sikh Dharma Universal (SDU) stands in solidarity with the Sikh community in Indianapolis and with our brothers and sisters in the Sikh American, Asian American, African American and all other communities.

We grieve and pray for all the deceased and the families who lost their loved ones in this senseless shooting.
